I’m generally curious what they’re gonna do with the online aspects of 6. I know people still play the online for the last one. Are they gonna shut that one down in favor of the new one? If so, I imagine a lot of people are gonna be very pissed off about that who dumped real money for GTA money.

Iirc didn’t something like this happen to The Matrix Online game? The rug was pulled from under users suddenly, especially the ones who’d paid for in-game perks. Likewise Second Life, which I always found so creepy as a concept.

Unless they team up with Valve/Steam they are likely done for hardware. The Activision lawsuit revealed in court documents that since the first Xbox system was launched, Microsoft has a grand total of two profitable quarters in their Xbox division, both due to Xbox Live subscriptions putting them over the top. That's it. Two quarters of profit and the rest are losses including some losses that would be devastating for anything but a trillion dollar company.

Microsoft once tried to sell their entire Xbox division to Samsung. When the Samsung people looked at the financials they didn't even bother negotiating the price down. They just walked away. They've been burning money since the whole 'red ring of death' fiasco with their dogshit foreign manufacturing. Xbox One was probably the worst console launch of all time other than gimmicks like the Ouya.
