I'm not a super enthusiast, so I bought a pre built in September because I wanted to play PC games and didn't want to build a PC.

The pre build I bought at the time was priced pretty aggressively when I compared how much the parts were on part picker so I decided to just buy it as it was only a $150 difference compared to building myself.

Anyways, I got bored earlier and decided to check out part picker and see the prices have completely blown up. My GPU and CPU combined cost more than the computer cost when I bought it. I almost feel like selling my GPU and making most of my money back and just buy another GPU when the prices drop back down.

Are any of you fellas knowledgeable in this segment?

No they haven't always been like this but it's cyclical, it will stabilise and in a number of years it'll get like this again. The reasons behind GPU pricing are complex and not actually tariff related (yet). Mostly comes down to """AI""" and supply.

Only really affects people that want the latest GPUs which there's really no point in buying if you can get previous generation.

I use a 1440p monitor for the PC because I don't see the benefits of 4k on such a small screen. It's high refresh rate, but maybe my eyes are just not tuned because I don't see a huge difference after 60 fps. Then jump from 30 to 60 is very obvious, but I can't tell the difference between 60 and 120 yet my screen is 240hz.

This is all for stupid indie games. The most intense games I play are BeamNG and Flight Simulator and my setup handles them just fine.

My only worry about it not being future proof would be the 12GB of VRAM the current card has, but that's probably close to 10 years away from being an issue and I'll likely be dead by then.

You can't tell the difference between 60 and 120 makes me think you didn't actually change the frame rate in your GPU control panel

I use the Nvidia app overlay and also afterburner and see the frames are correctly showing over 200fps on some games then I'll lock the frame rate at 80 fps as an experiment and don't notice anything all that different.

If I drop it to 45 frames it's extremely obvious.

I just mean the difference between 60 and 144 is night and day for me even on the desktop. You've opened the GeForce control panel and made sure the monitors are set right? I don't think there's a Windows option to change the monitor refresh rate, except maybe in properties. By default it won't usually run at the advertised refresh rate.

High frame rate doesn't really matter for a lot of shit. You'll notice it in fast paced games. Try flying a fast jet close to the ground in msfs at 80 and 200, you'll see it then. I like it for fps games, other games I just play at 4k60fps on my tv
