He's definitely one of those covert narcissists. Behind all the poor me bullshit he definitely feels he's better than most of the rest of the world in some intangible way, because he's thoughtful, gentle nerd and other people are cruel bastards.
Hes also massively autistic and thinks blathering about himself is a good way to relate to other people. Plus he's a retard who can only offer the most rigid and prescribed artistic analyses, so he'd chime in with some irrelevant pointer on any photo with a sky because someone with authority in a workshop once told him too much sky is bad. He never organically picked up on why that was a bad thing, and probably still doesn't really know, but he'll pass on the advice nonetheless because being a helpful dork is all he has to offer.
