I didn't know Gabriel was in Genisis for a long time. I knew him from his In your eyes and sledgehammer shit. I never liked Genesis.

He founded the band with Tony, Mike and Anthony Phillips. Also Chris Stewart but he didn't last.

His albums with them are all great, if you know what to expect.

Gabriel's 1975 resignation letter, titled 'Out Angels Out' in a lovely bit of public school pretension & punnery, is also fantastic, one of my favourite non-fictional pieces of pop-culture documentation.

Midway through the letter he starts banging on about growing cabbages and the elevated joys of his hippie family life, it's a bit bonkers. However, once you get past that, it's really just a heartfelt goodbye/thank you to Genesis fans, a screed about disillusionment with the long arm of big business and hypercapitalism in both art and everyday life & subsistence (a theme he'd mine in his own work for decades after, most obviously in OVO: Millennium Show), and a sensible bowing-out from a project that he felt had mutated around him.

I'm reliably informed that the lyrics to the song 'Solsbury Hill' by Peter Gabriel also express his feelings around needing and wanting to leave Genesis, and around his vocation & spirituality shifting. Or you can read it as a monologue by a young Jesus Christ, it works that way as well.

Not sure anything's beating Slash's Snakepit & Velvet Revolver.

The audacity—the pettiness—the gumption you have to have trying to replace Axl Rose thrice, then releasing full albums with those new singers that read as obvious direct hits at Axl's character? I love celebrity drama and mess, and evidently so does Slash.

And to his credit, Slash picked excellent frontmen. Especially glammy pocket rocket Eric Dover of Jellyfish fame, whom I simply adore and wish had done more records with all his bands.

I think if you ask the Sabbath fandom, there aren't many who say they love both. Love one and like the other, maybe, but usually it's split in my experience.

They're almost two different bands, Ozzy's and Dio's respective Sabbath's.

Then again, you could say the same about Genesis.
About Gabriel vs Collins, no doubt

Feels like no-one wins here. The girl deserves her own band and to make her own name, and LP really cannot replace a force like Chester and it does not behoove them to try.

Rap-metal really has dated, hasn't it?
Worse of two evils. Rap rock or rap country?

Sadistic choice. What's rap-country, Kid Rock? Because that's definitely worse.
I couldn't tell you a band or a song. It's fucking awful.

Edit. Just went on youtube and searched rap country and this popped up.https://youtu.be/qsNwDjUjbfs?si=AfzxcItVU8ce4UkP

Edit#2 I'm clearly retarded

Wasn't old enough to see Skynyrd, can't ever see Skynyrd
Skynyrd post-crash sounds fucking nothing like old Skynyrd, which is to be expected when pretty much the entire band gets wiped out. It's almost stereotypically shitty redneck music, right down to including Kid Rock and releasing a fucking Christmas album.

Alice In Chains, whose post-Staley output just reminds you he's dead
Alice in Chains at least had the advantage that the long-haired guy also sang and did the lead vocals on a bunch of songs. Spotify recommended me one of their newest songs a while ago. It wasn't bad, but it's very generic dad rock.

Ron Bennington once said that The Allman Brothers could of have been Skynyrd but they had the nerve to put black people in the band

WWAWD Linkin Park hiring some BROAD to replace chester Bennington? Fuckin thing sucks!
I dig a couple of the songs. Nobody likes a full Linkin Park album anyway, they just remember being younger and that being the popular sound. You're telling me this dogshit is objectively good?

The dyke shit is no worse than that. In some cases a little more interesting.
