I worked in a warehouse and shortly realised it was a WHOREHOUSE. I decided write messages in the bathroom, where there's no cameras, with a burner number for workers that wanted to strike. The plan was to get social media clout and raise a GoFundMe or something like that. Turned out the Eastern Euros (mostly Polish) were happy being the bosses bitch and were shook to dip their toes in the water. They'd rather be a lamb to the slaughter. The strike didn't work cos i was only there for two weeks and couldn't summon critical mass.

Wages should reflect the difficulty and necessity of the work done. Working in fast food is neither essential to society nor does it require specialized skills. For the betterment of everyone, I would further depress wages in these sorts of jobs to hopefully push the employees to find more useful ways to make a living. It's incongruous to on the one hand complain about overpopulation*, and on the other to bemoan scarcity of good-paying jobs like these two things aren't directly related. Living in a primarily service-based economy is another big issue, but beyond the scope of the current discussion.
*Nobody in this thread has brought this up, but it's something I hear IRL all the time and it pisses me off.
As a high-class call girl, my work may not be crucial for a functioning society, but it requires a skillset and knowledge that aren't universal, so I can demand a premium for my services.

Yeah I agree that BASICALLY, if a man does a real job for 40 hours a week, he should be able to feed himself and four other family members. But burger flipping bullshit isn't a real job; you're just doing something anybody can do, and you're feeding another fat American fuck.

Think about it. Some bricklayers charge, and I'm not shitting you, $3 per brick nowadays. They don't even work weekends any more. They could work once or twice a week and get by. Is that good? Do you like paying a shitload to get your house built?

Quick anecdote: my first job was at a car wash where a bunch of us worked for minimum wage, plus occasional tips. It was a good start for dozens of HS kids, illegal Mexicans, ex-cons, and other misfits to get experience. We learned basic stuff like how to interact with customers, adhere to a schedule, get along with different personalities, and simple problem solving skills. It kept lots of people busy and their résumés active. Now let's raise everyone's pay:
– Rather than keeping 20+ people on staff, there are 10 high quality, likely middle-aged workers getting a solid wage. All the others fall into the unemployed pool to stew (multiply this by thousands of businesses)
– Pay everyone a solid wage, have a heart (maaaaann). It's a car wash, not a casino, so profits are almost non-existent. The businessman – some dad who had an idea to make money like anyone else – is now subsidizing all these people and making very little himself. The only way to counter this is to jack up prices, passing the pain onto everyone else (who will ultimately find a cheaper service)
I don't pretend to know the solution, but artificially raising wages (past a certain threshold) is sadly a dead end.
