What's funny is she claims to be a "decorated veteran", but all the medals listed in the form seem to be participation trophies awarded to anyone in the service in the early 2000s. And obviously her's wasn't a combat role either, she never saw any frontline action. At best she might've cowered in the FOB as local children threw rocks and firecrackers at the walls. I believe it does technically refer to anyone who served, but I think that pretty much everyone understands it to mean combat veteran. I doubt anyone in society considers army cooks, bureaucrats or MPs to be 'veterans', regardless of how the military itself designates them.

Jackie (like Joe) is clearly banking on people thinking of the common definition of the word rather than the technical one when she calls herself a veteran. If she isn't, why she's only posting images of herself out in the field in Iraq with photoshopped firearms when that wasn't even her job?

Exactly, they’ve had the CO (objectors) to the war for years that serve but will do anything that doesn’t involve combat. The Paul Kersey character in Death Wish was a Vietnam vet but objected to war so he had a non-combat role. She lies about her experience which is all kinds of disgusting and a slap in the face to those who did actually do what she claims she did.

During this specific time period in the war, there were US soldiers carrying AKS. There were not enough primary or secondary firearms available.
Generally this wasn't with infantry, but sometimes was especially if the reason was to hide rifle report.
Within a few years this was no longer the case, by 2008ish.

In the Infantry world, if an M4 or M249 needed to go to the Brigade armorers for work, they'd have a few extra M4's available for that 1-2 weeks during repair. It got complicated with local (usually worthless) police carrying AK's, plus some poorer NATO forces with old AK's being integrated to get some experience.

A couple co-workers of mine served in the military, I didn’t know it until our VP sent out an email mentioning their service around Veterans Day. They never felt the need to tell everyone all day they served or wear a stupid hat all the time like a certain cow we know. That’s the majority of veterans, the ones that have to brag about it are scum like Jackie and Joe because they’re exaggerating / flat out lying about their service.
